There's a well-known story of Yogi Berra, well known catcher for the New York Yankees and Hank Aaron, the chief hitter at the time for the Milwaukee Braves. The teams were playing the 1958 World Series and as usual Yogi was using his incessant talking to pep up his team mates and to also break down and distract the batters. When it was time for Hank Aaron to come to bat, Yogi went into his usual constant chatter, "You're holding the bat wrong. You're supposed to hold it so you can see the trademark label." Aaron didn't say anything. When the next pitch came, he hit it into the left field bleachers. After rounding the bases and tagging up at the home plate, Hank Aaron looked at Yogi Berra and said, "I came up here to hit, not to read."
My take away from this is to be reminded that there will be people in your life attempting to distract and intimidate you. What is your goal? What is your intention? What is your purpose? Will you allow the criticism of haters to cause you to strike out? The enemy to your success, healing and breakthrough will try to throw all kinds of arrows, curve balls and traps. It's a set up to make you give up. Hank Aaron understood the principle I teach about in my book... "Shift Happens The Main Thing is to KEEP the Main Thing...the MAIN THING." Winners in any area of life understand the important habit and mindset of being focused. Allow me to encourage and empower to experience your next home run. Read...set...grow!
