Inspiration On 09/05/11

When kindness comes through grudgingly, we’ll remember
God’s kindness to us and ask Him to make us more kind.

When patience is scarce, we’ll thank Him for His and ask
Him to make us more patient.

When it’s hard to forgive, we won’t list all the times we’ve
been given grief. Rather, we’ll list all the times we’ve been
given grace and pray to become more forgiving.

Lord, teach me what you want me to do, and I will live by
your truth. (Psalm 86:11)

Inspiration On 08/16/11

 

If you were busy being kind,
Before you knew it you would find
You’d soon forget to think ’twas true
That someone was unkind to you.

If you were busy being glad
And cheering people who seem sad,
Although your heart might ache a bit,
You’d soon forget to notice it.

If you were busy being good,
And doing just the best you could,
You’d not have time to blame some man
Who’s doing just the best he can.

If you were busy being true
To what you know you ought to do,
You’d be so busy you’d forget
The blunders of the folks you’ve met.

If you were busy being right,
You’d find yourself too busy quite
To criticize your brother long,

Inspiration On 07/15/11

 

“We must not become tired of doing good.” Galatians 6:9

When we are mistreated, our animalistic response is to go on
the hunt. Instinctively, we double up our fists. Getting even
is only natural. Which incidentally, is precisely the problem.
Revenge is natural, not spiritual. Getting even is the rule of
the jungle. Giving grace is the rule of the kingdom . . .

To forgive someone is to admit our limitations. We’ve been
given only one piece of life’s jigsaw puzzle. Only God has
the cover of the box.

Inspiration On 06/23/11

Tom Long tells of the time he was at the checkout table at the
library at Princeton Seminary when a friend of his, a pastoral
counselor, approached staggering under the weight of a stack of
books. Tom teased him a little, asking what a pastoral counselor
was doing with all those books. And the fellow replied he was
doing some research on forgiveness.

Tom says he was surprised and puzzled. "Research on forgiveness?
What are you trying to find out?"

The counselor thought for a moment and replied, "I guess I'm
trying to find out if forgiveness really exists or not. You
know, I see so little evidence of it in my work."

heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others
their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.   Matthew 6:14-15

Inspiration On 05/04/11

One of the greatest preachers who ever lived, Charles Haddon
Spurgeon, called the "prince of preachers," loved to tell this story:

It seems there was a duke who once boarded a galley ship and went
below to talk to the convicts manning the oars. When he asked
several of them what their crimes were, almost every man claimed
that he was innocent, blaming someone else, or even accused the
judge of taking a bribe.

There was one young man whose reply was different. He said. "I
deserve to be here, sir. I stole some money. No one is at fault but
me. I am guilty."

When the duke heard this he shouted, "You scoundrel, you! What
are you doing here among all these honest men? Get out of their
company at once!" The duke ordered the young prisoner to be
released.

So, the young man was set free, while the rest of the prisoners
were left to continue to tug at the oars. The key to his freedom
was his admission of guilt.

This is a picture of salvation. Until one is willing to admit, "I am a
sinner in need of salvation," one cannot experience freedom from
guilt and condemnation.

Inspiration On 02-09-11

I like to point out in my talks that little things, too small to be
seen can stop a motor just as effectively as a rod through
a crankcase.

And it's the little things that get into our lives - a small lie, the
snubbing of our neighbor, a thoughtless taking of the Lord's
name in vain - that can stop your Christian way of life as surely
as the big sins.

Yet the Lord is willing to cleanse you of all sins, large and
small, if you will only ask Him. And when that happens, you
will find everything running smoothly again.
