Inspiration On 1/16/12

To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than

The following is from a clipping that Steve Worden from
Tulsa OK found on the inside cover of his Grandfather’s well
worn 1909 Scoffield Bible: 

This book contains the mind of God, the state of man, the way
of salvation, the doom of sinners and the happiness of believers.
Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, its histories
are true and its decisions are immutable.  Read it to be wise,
believe it to be safe and practice it to be holy.  It contains light
to direct you, food to support you and comfort to cheer you.  It
is the travelers’ map, the pilgrim’s staff, the pilot’s compass,
the soldier’s sword and the Christian’s character.  Here paradise
is restored, heaven opened and the gates of hell disclosed. 
Christ is its grand Object, our good its design and the glory of
God its end.  It should fill the memory, rule the heart and guide
the feet.  Read it slowly, frequently and prayerfully.  It is a mine
of wealth, a paradise of glory and a river of pleasure.  It is given
you in life, will be opened in the judgment and will be remembered
forever.  It involves the highest responsibility, will reward the
greatest labor and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents.

Inspiration On 12/27/11

 

God’s grace isn’t just for helping you get through this life. It is
for helping you to live it too. It is only with God’s grace that you
can live fully. It is only with God’s grace that you can give totally.
It is only with God’s grace that you can love unconditionally.

May you always accept and welcome God’s love and grace into
your life. May you always fill your days, your heart, and your
soul with it. May you always find the greatest joy in life by
sharing it with others as well.

Mary did you know that your baby boy will one day walk on water? 
Mary did you know that your baby boy will save our sons and daughters? 
Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new? 
This child that you've delivered, will soon deliver you.

Mary did you know that your baby boy will give sight to a blind man? 
Mary did you know that your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand? 
Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod? 
And when you kiss your little baby, you have kissed the face of God.

The blind will see, the deaf will hear and the dead will live again. 
The lame will leap, the dumb will speak, the praises of the Lamb.

Mary did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation? 
Mary did you know that your baby boy will one day rule the nations? 
Did you know that your baby boy is heaven's perfect Lamb? 
This sleeping child you're holding is the GREAT I AM.

Just this once, Lord, I want to come to You with no problems,
but simply to say, Thank You:

For your forgiveness when I fail...

For the sheer joy of sleep when I'm terribly tired...

For the remedies for sickness when I am ill...

For the assurance that You have made a place especially for me...

For the joy of helping others when I see people in need...

For the earthly evidences of Your will...

For the fun that refreshes when everything gets too serious...

For the renewal in moments of silence...

For your abiding presence that makes every day I live a day of thanks.

Inspiration On 09/19/11

Imagine walking through a crowded airport. You cannot move without
bumping into someone. You're late for your flight, and the wheels just
broke on your over - packed suitcase.

With no other option, you're forced to carry the luggage and slowly
maneuver through the congested lobby toward the ticketing area. Almost
immediately, a young gentleman offers to carry your bags, but you
pridefully refuse. When you realize the ticket counter is two levels up,
you make your way to the stairs. Someone asks you if it would be
easier to take the elevator. But you are determined to carry your
bags.

As you finally make it to the top of the steps, your arms feel numb
from the pressure of your bags. Your legs are starting to buckle
from the weight. Your back is aching from supporting the heavy
load. Then, you spot a collection of unused baggage carts. But
you ignore them, self - assured that you can handle the bags yourself.

Isn't this a silly story? Who would prefer to carry such a heavy
burden, ignoring every opportunity to lay it down? And yet,
many believers do just that. Our Father has called us to lay our
cares at His feet. But when we fail to come to God in prayer,
we're just as foolish as the man staggering with his bags through
the airport.

Are you trying to carry a greater burden than you can bear? Don't
ignore God's offer to help. The truth is, we really can't "do it
ourselves," and God never wanted us to try.

I've cried to God as I've beheld
The world wrapped up in fear
Of lack and death and war that looms
To snatch lives held so dear

I said, "My God!  Have you not heard
The newsmen on TV?
Do you not know the shape we're in?
Do you not care for me?"

Inspiration On 09/05/11

When kindness comes through grudgingly, we’ll remember
God’s kindness to us and ask Him to make us more kind.

When patience is scarce, we’ll thank Him for His and ask
Him to make us more patient.

When it’s hard to forgive, we won’t list all the times we’ve
been given grief. Rather, we’ll list all the times we’ve been
given grace and pray to become more forgiving.

Lord, teach me what you want me to do, and I will live by
your truth. (Psalm 86:11)

Inspiration On 8/22/11

 

We are all blessed by our families and by our loving friends who
help us and who give us support.  And we can be daily examples
to each other and nourish each other and help each other . . . in
spite of our differences and also, many times, because of them.

Just as my earthly father is always with his family, so our Father
in heaven is always with His family, which embraces all mankind.

And it seems to me, I've learned this past week that our Lord
must be very, very great indeed to be able to encompass so many
different kinds of feelings and so many kinds of people in His
everlasting love.
